UMaine Offers Peer Counseling Program

Orono - Some area high school students will now have the skills to counsel their peers through difficult situations.

Students from Piscataquis Community Secondary School and the Blue Hill Harbor School attended a Peer Counseling Training Program hosted by University of Maine professors and graduate students. Teachers and administrators were asked to nominate students who peers view with respect. The most qualified candidates were chosen to participate in the counseling training workshops.

The university is also offering free counseling to any interested community members. Services are provided to adults, adolescents, families and groups. To schedule an appointment with a graduate student counselor, call 581-2419.
