Madawaska School Panel Proposes 9.45-Percent Teacher Pay Cuts

School officials in Madawaska have voted to cut teacher salaries by almost nine-and-a-half-percent.
The school committee's unanimous vote is aimed at meeting a voter-ordered 525-thousand dollar budget cut.
The district needs to cut the current year budget because recent property tax abatements granted to Twin Rivers Paper Company reduced the firm's taxable valuation from 170-million dollars to 85-million.
