CLIFTON - A man and a woman are dead after being ejected from a motorcycle in Clifton.
The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office says around six o'clock Sunday evening the call came in of a crash on Route 9 East just beyond Camp Molly Molasses Road.
Upon arrival, Eddington Fire, Maine State Police, and the Penobscot County Sheriff's Department found 40-year-old Jason Emerson, the operator of the motorcycle, and 36-year-old Elizabeth Gould, the passenger, both of Bangor, dead on the scene.
"A motorcycle with two occupants was passing several vehicles, came into the curve portion of this area here on Route 9, left its lane and went into the oncoming lane and struck the guardrail," Chief Deputy Troy Morton, of the Penobscot Sheriff's Department says.
Penobscot County Sheriff's Department says the 1982 Harley Davidson was traveling at a high rate of speed while passing other vehicles, and that the riders did not appear to have been wearing helmets.
The crash remains under investigation by the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office and the Maine State Police.
