Nelson Takes Stand in Anson Murder Trial
SKOWHEGAN - The Norridgewalk man on trial for murder in Skowhegan, took the stand in his own defense today, as testimony drew to a close.

41 year-old Robert Nelson is accused of shooting 60 year-old Everett Cameron of North Anson to death on Halloween three years ago.

On the stand in Somerset County Superior Court, Nelson said he often bought prescription pills from Cameron, saw Cameron the day of his death, but denied killing him. Prosecutors have pointed to gunpowder residue on Nelson's hands, and Nelson's vehicle spotted near Cameron's that October 31st, as the evidence needed to convict.

Closing arguments are scheduled for tomorrow morning, then Justice John Nivison will begin deciding Nelson's fate. Nelson opted for a bench trial, which means there has been no jury.
