BREWER - It's a day that commemorates the end of slavery in America. Our Erin Thomas was at the annual Juneteenth Day celebration in Brewer.
James Varner, Executive Director of the Maine Human Rights Coalition, addressed supporters Wednesday. Telling them about the day slavery ended- June 19th, 1865.
Varner along with other supporters gathered at the Joshua Chamberlain Park in Brewer for the 8th annual Juneteenth Day celebration.
Where they sang songs, held a special vigil, and honored those who have been supportive in the community.
Erin joined the ABC-7 and FOX Bangor news team in February 2012. She was born and raised in Presque Isle, Maine where she attended Presque Isle High School. While in college Erin interned in the WVII news room before working as a Production Assistant. In May of 2012, Erin received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Maine, along with a minor in Anthropology.
