ORONO - The town of Orono is starting a new green initiative. The Orono Town Council recently voted to approve zero-sort recycling.
Under a new agreement with Pine Tree Waste, residents no longer have to sort recycled materials for curbside collection. Town officials say it's convenient and user friendly.
"Now, we can recycle plastics one through seven. If you can bend it, you can recycle it," says Orono Assistant Town Manager, Belle Ryder. "All sorts of different paper products can be recycled now, if you can rip it, recycle it. It really helps us meet our goal of sustainability."
Zero-sort recycling will begin July 1st.
