Farmer's Markets Offer Food Stamps Discount

ETNA - Fresh fruits and vegetables will now be more readily available to low-income mainers, as local farmer's markets will be honoring a discount on food stamps.

Several of the markets around Maine are making it easier for these folks to buy fresh goods. Offering a 50% discount on items purchased with an EBT/SNAP card.

Shoppers using EBT cards will receive this discount on the first $40 of their purchases.

The Bangor and Ohio Street farmer's markets began this discount last year, and the Brewer market will join the program next month, on July 6th.
