ACLU of Maine Calls for Federal Investigation of Outgoing MaineGOP Chair

A few weeks ago, MaineGOP chairman Charlie Webster made controversial remarks, suggesting black voters committed voter fraud on November 6.

Now, the ACLU of Maine is calling for a federal investigation of Webster.

The advocacy group says it's asking the U.S. Justice Department to examine Webster's plan to send 1,000 mailers to certain addresses, then count the number returned as undeliverable.

And that, the ACLU says, violates federal law.Webster did not respond to a request for comment, but has said that he will send the mailers on his own time, after he steps down as MaineGOP chairman December 1.
