Manna ministries is using gardening as a tool to educate -- in addition -- to feed members that seek shelter at the 629 Main Street location in Bangor.
This is the third year manna has planted a garden, which provides fresh vegetables to their soup kitchen operation.
Executive Director Bill Rae says eating healthy will help reduce hospital visits, doctor’s appointments and food expenses for its residents.
He also mentions that many valuable lessons can come from gardening.
Manna's garden is in the beginning stages of the season.
They are looking for seedling donations for vegetables or fresh produce from that extra row in your garden at home.
