Horse Slaughter Bill Moves Froward in Augusta

AUGUSTA - A bill to prevent horses from being shipped through Maine to slaughter houses in Canada is moving forward in Augusta.

While American's don't typically consume the animals, other parts of the world do.

In Canada, the horses are slaughtered and the meat is then shipped overseas.

Now some lawmakers want Maine to wash it's hands from contributing to this industry in anyway.

The bill would make it a class C felony for anyone who violates the law.
