SKOWHEGAN - The North Cemetery in Skowhegan will be receiving a face lift in the coming days.
A portion of the land in the cemetery collapsed three weeks ago due to the ground water underneath blowing out the bottom portion of the bank.
This caused the land to cave in just feet away from several gravestones.
Skowhegan road commissioner, Gregory Dore, says reconstruction of the embankment should be a simple task.
"We're gonna dig down to the bottom of the embankment, install some perforated pipe for the drainage. Then slowly build our way back up and put a reasonable slop on the bank that will stay with some re-enforcement with some rip rap," Dore says.
The reconstruction is set to begin as soon as the ground in the cemetery hardens up.
