BANGOR - UMaine students gathered at Eastern Maine Medical Center to present a big check to the hospital's pediatrics unit.
On February 23rd UMaine hosted it'ssecond annual "Bearfest", where students danced for 12 straight hours to raise money for EMMC Pediatrics.
Today, UMaine students and Bearfest organizers gathered to present the $47,881 check to administrators.
Bearfest is one of a series of college dance marathons across the country to benefit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
The amount raised this year, came as quite a shock to organizers and the EMMC staff.
"We raised almost fifty-percent more than we were planning on. Our original goal was $35,000, so almost $48,000 was just awesome," co-director of Bearfest Patrick Hart says.
"We're just very thankful, very grateful for the support the University of Maine and it's students provide EMMC. The collaboration has been tremendous. But really again just to say thank you to the students, their hard work and dedication has really paid off," Director of EMHS Foundation and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Kelly Pearson says.
Bearfest organizers are already planning for next year, and hope to raise double the amount raised this year.
