Lawmakers Consider Ignition Interlock Devices

AUGUSTA - Lawmakers are considering a piece of legislation that would allow ignition interlock devices for first time OUI offenders.

The device is basically a breathalyzer test the driver would have to take before starting the car.

If he or she passes it starts, if they fail, it doesn't.

A hearing was held on the issue today and supporters believe this is a good way to help keep roads safe.

The device would be installed in the car for 6 months.
