BANGOR -- The city's top municipal official announced her pick for the vacant position of police chief, Tuesday...
City manager Cathy Conlow has appointed Lt. Mark Hathaway to lead the department.
He's been with Bangor Police since 1987, and currently leads its bomb squad.
Hathaway says his number one priority is improving the quality of life.
"I want people to feel comfortable sitting on their front porch on a Saturday evening, or when they go to bed not having to worry about someone breaking into their car, or stealing something out of their yard," said Hathaway. "It's a tall order, but I'm confident we can get our hands around this."
Hathaway's appointment is subject to confirmation by the Bangor City Council.
He's scheduled to assume the position May 14.
Hathaway succeeds Chief Ron Gastia, who retired last year.
