Identities of Concealed-Carry Permit Holders to Remain Confidential

AUGUSTA - The Maine House has overwhelmingly approved a bill to
keep the identities of concealed-carry permit holders confidential.

Representatives voted 160-40 to advance the emergency measure.  Lawmakers did pass LD 345 with an amendment, providing for the release of certain statistical information.

Representatives killed a proposed amendment that would have kept records open, except for certain groups like police, judges and prosecutors. LD 345 faces further votes, before final passage.

Meanwhile, the  Coalition for  a Safer Maine has announced it has received a substantial contribution from Bangor author Stephen King and his wife Tabitha.  The group is an advocate for sensible gun legislation in Maine, calling for among other things expanded background checks and a ban on high capacity magazines.
