MAINE - Maine has the lowest average car insurance rates in the nation. That's according to Insure.com's annual state by state comparison of insurance premiums. Our Kristin Hosfelt explains.
Buying a new car can be daunting, but rest assured, insuring those new wheels will cost you a lot less in the pine tree state.
According to Insure, Maine has the lowest average rates on coverage of new cars, coming in at $934 annually.
Iowa followed with just over a thousand.
And Louisiana and Michigan came in on top with annual premiums at $2,699 and 2,520 respectively.
Insurance agent, Faouzi Tlili, says he's not surprised, based on the state's ruralness and tight restrictions on young drivers.
Tlili says the more restrictions, the better the drivers, and in turn, fewer insurance claims are filed.
In addition, Mainers are used to inclimate weather.
Other factors include the type of car you drive, your age, your marital status, and your driving record.
