State Panel Takes Up Online Sales Tax Bill
Augusta - Mainers will have to pay sales tax on things they buy on the Internet, under a bill now before the legislature.
The taxation committee is considering a bill that would call for online retailers to add sales tax to purchases by Maine residents. Senate President Justin Alfond says the bill could create a more even playing field for Maine's small businesses, which collect sales taxes.
