BANGOR - A local barbershop quartet spent its Valentine's Day spreading love and harmony.

Mainely Music Chorus has offered singing valentines for a dozen years.

The barbershop quartet can be hired to serenade the recipient with a few songs.

"It's a treat for those of us who sing, probably at least as much as it is for those who receive singing valentines," said Russ Van Arsdale, of the Mainely Music Chorus' Barbershop Quartet. "Reaction is always a surprise, usually delighted, sometimes a little flummoxed."

They don't always sing to couples. Quartet members say they've been sent by various family members, including fathers or siblings.

In this case, Cindy Durrah's auntie sent her a singing valentine.

Durrah was overcome with emotion and says she was amazed.
