Former legislator voices concern over prison closure

MACHIAS - Word of the closure spread quickly in Washington County, sparking outrage among many local residents.

That includes former state senate president Kevin Raye who turned to social media to voice his displeasure. He said he's "Deeply ashamed of the governor's vindictive, short-sighted and despicable action unilaterally closing the Downeast Correctional Facility under cover of darkness. His action shows utter contempt for the process and for the people of Washington County who twice supported him at the polls. This must not stand".
