State police say 62 year old Robert Craig had pulled a flatbed trailer hauling lumber into a local business on Route 1-A in Mars Hill.
He was backing the trailer into the roadway to adjust his position when a loaded potato truck came around the curve.
30 year old Ryan Hallett of Houlton was driving the potato truck and tried to avoid striking the other vehicle.
He swerved to the right, but ended up striking the truck and a guardrail before crossing back across the roadway where he struck a second guardrail.
The impact caused the entire load of potatoes to be dumped over an embankment.
Both men escaped injury, but crews had quite a mess to clean up following the crash.
