Congressman Poliquin fine after train crash

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA - Maine Congressman Bruce Poliquin was among those aboard an Amtrak train that crashed this morning in Virginia.

His office reports Congressman Poliquin has a few minor bruises, but is otherwise okay. He was among members of congress and staff members who were on their way to a republican retreat in West Virginia.

Officials said the train was traveling near Charlottesville when it collided with a garbage truck.

No serious injuries are reported on the train, but a person in the truck was killed and another was injured.

The GOP retreat is going ahead as planned.

Buses were called to the scene to help them continue on their way.

Congressman Poliquin also released a statement, saying "My heart aches for the families of the truck driver who perished and for the man now struggling for his life. We who were on the train are shaken, but we will be fine.

Life is precious and fragile. Every day is a blessing. Please hug your kids and loved ones every chance you get."
