Five people who had been out scalloping had put their boat on the mooring and were headed back to shore in a 14 foot skiff when it overturned. Officials said they were dumped into the icy ocean water without any life jackets.
The U.S. Coast Guard was already in the area doing training when they got the call just before 2 p.m. Officials said they were able to divert and get to them in less than 5 minutes.
A spokesperson stated when they arrived in Deep Cove near the boat school one man had already been able to swim to shore but the rest were still in the water.
Officials said they were able to get them out quickly and take them to waiting emergency medical responders.
