Crews arrived on scene around eight thirty Tuesday evening and found heavy fire showing through the roof.
The homeowner was able to make it out of his home without injury.
Crews from seven towns responded to the call but man power and water was said to be a major issue in trying to fight the fire.
Crews had to bring water in from a hydrant near route 178 and route 9 intersection to the scene.
They are expected to be at the scene late into the night extinguishing the fire.
Eddington Fire Chief, James Ellis said "At this point, the home does appear to be a total loss even though it is still standing."
One firefighter did get injured from the icy conditions.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
