But some coastal downeast towns were spared, getting mostly rain and far less snow.
While nearby towns also were hit hard by last Thursday's storm surge tide, Machias residents somehow sidestepped any damage that day as well.
Machais town manager Christine Therrien said "It's been pretty much operations as normal. It's winter, downeast morning. But we did get a lot of the ice. Really,. No significant power outages in the area, which was wonderful for us."
Therrien stated they plan to hire a contractor to remove snow piles from the center of town, just in case the next storm isn't so kind.
