Maine DOT reminds drivers to remove snow from cars

STATEWIDE (WGME) - Officials with Maine DOT are reminding drivers to clear the snow and ice off the top of their cars.

Officials said after snow storms like Tuesday's, they see drivers forgetting to remove snow from their roof. On highways, pieces can fly off, ending with smashed windows or worse.

Maine DOT spokesperson Dale Doughty stated "A large sheet of ice coming off a vehicle and hitting another vehicle. One people just react to avoid it and then during slippery conditions that could certainly create a problem."

It may take you a few more minutes but officials say it's the safe thing to do.
