Body found in Hancock park Featured

HANCOCK - Monday morning, a passing motorist in Hancock discovered a body in Monument Park.

Around 8:30 a.m., Monday, a body was discovered near a bench in Monument Park next to the Hancock town office.


Hancock County sheriff's deputies spent a couple of hours at the scene before ruling out foul play as a cause of death.


A clerk at the town office said the body was discovered by a town resident who alerted authorities.


According to a release from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, the body has been identified as Anthony Spellman, 53.


At about the same time the body was discovered, a nearby elderly boarding home reported one of their residents missing. A person identified as the administrator of the boarding home declined to comment. The sheriff's statement identified the man as the person reported missing from the boarding home.

He has received reporting awards from the Maine Press Association, Maine Association of Broadcasters and the Maine Associated Press Broadcasters Association.

He is married, with three adult children and two grandchildren.
