14-hour Waterville standoff ends peacefully

WATERVILLE (WGME) - A 14 hour standoff in Waterville came to an end Sunday morning after a man who fired several shots into the floor of his second story apartment was taken in to custody.

Michael Joslyn, 23, could face several charges after the standoff, which ended after he came out of his apartment but remained uncooperative.

Police said the standoff started before 9:00 p.m. Saturday when the man fired four shots into the floor and came close to hitting the landlord inside the first floor apartment. That person is safe and left the building.

More shots were fired after 11:30 a.m. Sunday and a four-block area around the building was blocked off by police on College Avenue.

Police used a pepper ball on Joslyn before taking him into custody.

Police said the incident remains under investigation, but the cause appears to be a landlord-tenant dispute fueled by alcohol.
