Moratorium on marijuana caregivers near schools

BANGOR - The Bangor City Council's first roll-call vote covered a familiar topic of recent years.

A stir was raised last month over marijuana caregivers setting up shop near schools.

Last night without further discussion, the council unanimously voted to impose a moratorium on marijuana caregivers setting up shop within 500 feet of any city school.

Councilor Gibran Graham said "This law is repealed July 1st, 2018, thereby giving municipalities time to enact any appropriate ordinances related to locating a marijuana caregiver facility."

Facilities already located within this zone can stay open for business, but cannot expand.
