There's a shorter window to apply for healthcare coverage this year and people have until December 15th to choose a plan best for their family.
Due to power outages, Senator Angus King is trying to get the state a 10 day extension for the 2018 affordable care act open enrollment period.
Officials said they've seen cases where having healthcare coverage could have saved lives.
Senator King said "You never know when something will strike. I had cancer at the age of 30 years old, it wasn't something that I expected. If I hadn't had healthcare coverage I might not even be here."
