EMHS signs veteran employer agreement

BANGOR - A special event was held in Bangor Thursday to celebrate a new agreement that will help veterans get good jobs.

Many veterans struggle to find employment after service, but thanks to the U.S. Army "Partnership for Youth Success" program they'll have a better shot.

Eastern Maine Healthcare System has become the first employer in Maine to sign an agreement to take part in the program.

It gives soldiers and ROTC cadets a guaranteed job interview and possible employment with Eastern Maine Healthcare System after their service.

Paul Bolin, EMHS, said "EMHS has had tremendous success hiring and recruiting and retaining veterans from all members of service for many years. This program, we're hoping it will further enhance our ability to attract veterans to our state, to our organization as well as the family they may be bringing with them."

EMHS already employs 384 veteran employees throughout the statewide system.

It has found many veterans have skills that transfer easily into the civilian workforce and their discipline and work ethic is a major benefit.
