It happened in the southbound lane near mile marker 163 in Etna around 9:00 p.m.Wednesday.
The moose toppled over onto the first vehicle, sending it off the road and into the trees 50 feet away, ripping the roof entirely from the car.
Maine State Police Trooper Brian Bean stated "The operator was LifeFlighted, and the passenger was transported to the hospital as well. Injuries appear to not be life-threatening."
Plymouth Fire and Rescue Lt. Christopher Roberts added "I mean, a lot of facial and some upper torso issues, because the moose punctured the windshield."
Crews were still working to remove vehicles from the woods into the early hours of the morning.
Troopers stress that motorists need to be careful on alert while driving at night as moose can be incredibly difficult to see in the dark.
