Augusta fire station getting a new look

AUGUSTA - Augusta's nearly 100-year-old Hartford Fire Station gets a face lift.

The nearly $5 million dollar expansion project begins Monday. As part of the addition, the fire department takes a section of Gage Street, which runs along one side of the station. As of noon Monday, that section of Gage Street will be closed to traffic.

Chief Roger Audette stated "We're doing a fairly significant expansion for apparatus and living quarters. And then renovating the existing station for surplus equipment and mechanics' bay and things like that."

It's expected it will take contractors 500 days to complete the expansion project. That should put the ribbon cutting on the addition in the spring of 2019.
