Event honoring shelter contributions held in Brewer

BREWER - With cold weather approaching, the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter is preparing to care for the city's most vulnerable citizens.

On Tuesday, the non-profit held its annual meeting to acknowledge the efforts of organizations and individuals in local neighborhoods.

Boyd Kronholm, Exec. Director, Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, said "We are a community shelter, and we support the community, but they also support us back. So it's great to be able to honor folks who are supporting us."

Volunteer Michael Gordy said "I've never been homeless myself but I've been close. It was through the help of friends and family that I was able to keep myself together. I can't pay them back, but I can kinda help out with other people and pay it forward, as they say."

In addition to the awards, there was a dinner at the Eagles Club, and Bangor City Council Chair Joe Baldacci gave a keynote address.
