Senator King said some people are being forced to choose between earning money to support their family and taking time off to support their family.
Under this legislation a small percentage of their payroll would go into a fund which would be there when they need it.
Senator King stated "None of us know when some kind of family emergency is going to strike, and the problem now is that there's a patchwork of this kind of coverage, some employers offer it, some don't, but in some states it's provided, in other states it isn't, I'm supporting a variety of approaches to this issue in Washington."
Senator King, who will be running for re-election next year, will also visit four nonprofits in Lewiston to discuss domestic violence and youth homelessness.
