Vehicles with Maine Loon License Plates get free admission to state parks and historic sites

STATEWIDE - Sunday is Loon Plate Appreciation Day.

Anyone who has a Maine Loon License Plate on their vehicle will get into state parks and Maine historic sites for free.

The open admission does not apply to Acadia National Park, the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, Baxter State Park, Peacock Beach, the Maine Wildlife Park or the Penobscot Narrows Observatory in Prospect although admission to the Fort Knox historic site will be free with the loon plate.

Officials said it's their way of thanking those that have bought the plates which support state parks and Inland Fisheries and Wildlife programs.
