State representative booted from two committees in fallout for anti-Trump comments

AUGUSTA - A state representative from South Portland who made headlines for his rant against President Trump has been removed from his committees.

House Speaker Sara Gideon removed Democrat Scott Hamann from both the Health and Human Services Committee and the Marijuana Legalization Implementation Committee.

Hamaan touched off a firestorm of criticism this week when he blasted President Trump on Facebook and suggested he would harm the president if he got close enough.

Speaker Gideon said the comments were inexcusable and unacceptable and his removal should serve as a lesson to other members of Maine's government.
