Downeast Magazine announced the 12 semi-finalists for its "World's Best Lobster Roll Competition." Dozens of lobster roll restaurants and vendors from across the U.S. submitted their applications to be named to the elite 12. All but two of the final 12 had Maine connections.
For the judges, it will all come down to taste. Downeast Magazine Editor in Chief, Kathleen Fleury, said "everyone's got their own opinion on what makes a good lobster roll. Some people say lettuce is sacrilege, other people say anything but hot and with butter is not worth eating. Other people are more traditional like the lobster salad roll."
C-Ray Lobster in Bar Harbor and the Stonington Ice Cream Company are among those still in the running.
The final competition will take place at the inaugural Downeast Lobster Roll Festival on Saturday, July 8th at Thompson's Point in Portland.
