It all started Wednesday morning when police were called to a local store where a man had stolen items the previous day. While there, the suspect returned to the business and the officer attempted to question him. But he took off running and fled into some woods and vanished.
The man has since been identified as Michael Gatcomb, 33, from the town of Fayette.
Police later heard Gatcomb had been picked up by someone in a vehicle and taken to Holyoke Street. Police also converged on that area and gave chase when Gatcomb again tried to flee.
This time he was arrested and charged with theft, refusal to submit to arrest and violating the conditions of his release.
Police learned he also had four active arrest warrants for previous offenses.
