Local family seeks kidney donation to save childs life Featured

BANGOR - A Bangor toddler has been showing the area what it is to be a survivor. And to carry on he is in need of a kidney.

Ashton and his two brothers were born almost two years ago, 15 weeks early.

"Ashton is our surviving triplet." according to Ashton's mother Danielle Lozier.

Ashton's siblings Carson and Braydon eventually succumbed to health issues stemming from being born so premature. Being less than two pounds and so under developed left all three with a lot of time spent in two different hospitals.

Lozier said "One of the things that Ashton has is chronic kidney disease .... Since he was so small when he was born. His kidneys were actually deformed."

This caused the family to reach out to surrounding communities for help in finding a donor, but not just anyone can offer a kidney, there are a few initial requirements to get past the first steps of finding a match.

"They have to be the same blood type as Ashton which is type 0, doesn't matter if it's positive or negative....have to be at least 18 preferably 22-50." added Lozier.

This will be Ashton's third surgery and his parents are hopeful he is young enough that he wont remember the operation.
