Winter Animal Forensics Feb. 18

ORLAND—Ever wonder what animals do in winter? Who made those tracks in the snow? Join Julianne Taylor at Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery, Sunday, Feb. 18, for Winter Animal Forensics! Learn how to identify animals active during the winter months and the amazing adaptations that help them survive. There will be a scavenger hunt and the chance to make and take home a track casting. There will be two sessions offered, starting at the Hatchery Visitor Center: 10-11:30 am, or 1-2:30 pm. Space is limited, so pre-register at [email protected] or 469-6929. Winter Animal Forensics and Snowshoe Run at Winter Fun Day, February 18

ORLAND—Join us for an afternoon of family skiing and snowshoeing, Winter Animal Forensics, and the Wildlands Snowshoe Run at Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery and the Great Pond Mountain Wildlands!

The 4.4-mile Wildlands Snowshoe Run starts at noon at the hatchery. It’s a run or walk on snowshoes, following dirt roads and trails into the Wildlands, with plenty of hills, small stream crossings and gorgeous views. Be prepared for rough and potentially icy conditions and cold. Prizes and refreshments. Registration starts 11 am; cost is $10/person or $25 per family pre-registered, or $15/$35 race day. While you’re there, bring skiis or snowshoes and enjoy some short loop trails around the fish hatchery, or venture out into the Wildlands or onto Alamoosook Lake for a longer jaunt.

Wildlands Winter Run, Sunday, Feb. 18

ORLAND—Strap on your snowshoes (or creepers) for the Wildlands Winter Run, Sunday, Feb. 18 at noon. It’s a 4.4-mile run or walk in the Great Pond Mountain Wildlands, on snow-covered dirt roads and some single track trail with plenty of up and down running. Footing is rough at best for much of this run and there are hills to climb and small stream crossings to maneuver. Distance may be modified based on conditions. Run starts at noon; registration begins at 11 am at Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery. Part of Wildlands Winter Fun Day!
