Unity Window Insert Build Event (-)

Windows are one of the main sources of heat loss in a home during the cold seasons, allowing cold air into the home and pulling warm air out. Window inserts help prevent this heat loss by insulating the window and blocking the passage way for cold/warm air transference.  Maine Partnership for Environmental Stewardship in Unity Maine is partnered with WindowDressers of Rockland, ME to provide 18 homes in the town of Unity and surrounding areas with window inserts. In order for them to receive their window inserts we need volunteers from the community to help with the assembly of them. On January 3rd-6th there will be a window insert build event taking place at the Unity United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. This is a volunteer based initiative, which will result in the assembly of over 100 inserts for participating low-income homes.  Individuals interested in volunteering can sign up at http://signup.com/go/UzidVwd.

Age By Design including Patricia Oh from AARP Maine (Sat. 6 Jan, 2018 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm)

Join a community discussion about aging on Mount Desert Island at the Jesup Memorial Library on Saturday, January 6 at 1:30 p.m. as part of Age by Design. Patricia Oh from AARP Maine will join members of the Bar Harbor Task Force on Aging to share information about Bar Harbor’s designation as an age-friendly community. Bar Harbor is one of 44 communities in the state of Maine to be an age-friendly community. During the second half of the program, they will answer questions and facilitate a conversation about healthy aging and how to make our communities age-friendly.   Age by Design is a series of programs, facilitated by Island Connections, the Jesup Memorial Library, YWCA Mount Desert Island and the Mount Desert Island YMCA, geared towards people 50 years and older. The series is designed to spark a conversation about creating a community you want to age into. Individual programs will focus on physical health, mental and spiritual health, finances, caregiving and lifelong learning. There also will be panel discussions, classes and workshops.

Programs will be on the first and third Saturdays of each month through April at 1:30 p.m. in 2018 at different venues. Depending on response to the Age by Design series, additional programs might be added. For more information contact Doreen Willett at Island Connections at 207-288-4457 or Melinda Rice at the Jesup Memorial Library at 207-288-4245.
