Native Peoples of the Pleasant River Area Program

Pleasant River Historical Society announces its first program Friday, July 14th at 7pm in the Summer Series focusing on the Native peoples of the Pleasant River area. The program is led by Chris Sockalexis speaking on the very earliest peoples of Eastern Maine.

Chris Sockalexis is a member of the Penobscot Nation and is the Penobscot Nation Tribal Historic Preservation Officer. In this position, his mission is to manage, preserve, and protect the Penobscot Nation’s cultural and historic properties, resources, and interests within the Penobscot cultural landscape of Maine. He is a graduate of the University of Maine with a degree in Anthropology focusing on Maine Archaeology. His current research at the University of Maine’s Climate Change Institute involves Cultural Identity and Maritime Adaptation within the Gulf of Maine.

The program is Friday evening, July 14th at 7pm at Church on the Hill,  Ridge Road (off Rte. 1) in Addison, Maine. It will be preceded by a brief business meeting of Pleasant River Historical Society at 6:30pm and refreshments will be served. There is no charge for any program of the PRHS.
