Justin Bieber was arrested and charged with assault today after surrendering at the Toronto Police Department.
According to a police statement, the charge stems from an alleged altercation involving a limousine driver that took place Monday, December 30.
The police report goes on to allege that a man struck the limousine driver on the back of the head several times while the driver was transporting the man and five other people from a nightclub to a hotel.
Bieber is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Monday, March 10.
"We anticipate that this matter will be treated as a summary offense, the equivalent of a misdemeanor in the United States," Bieber's reps said in a statement to ET. "Our position is that Mr. Bieber is innocent."
This follows Bieber's arrest on a DUI charge in Miami last week where he was also charged with resisting arrest without violence and driving with an expired license.
Bieber's arraignment date was set for February 14 in the DUI case. Today, Bieber's manager Scooter Braun tweeted:
i ask people to be kind and hope for the best in people. not assume the worst. thanks— Scooter Braun (@scooterbraun) January 29, 2014
