Cher's Son Elijah Blue Felt 'Shunned' as a Child

Cher and Greg Allman's son, musician and artist Elijah Blue Allman, recently opened up to ET about his past and current relationship with his mother, as well as his stepbrother Chaz Bono.

Elijah Blue told ET's Rob Marciano there were times growing up that he felt shunned by his parents. "When you go to boarding school at 7 years old, it's kind of hard to feel like you're not being shunned." He added: "But I'm at an age where I'm making peace with it because you just have to. But I still...it doesn't mean it's right. It's still wrong to do that."

He said that during his boarding school years, he would often come back home to visit his parents in New York. "So I would come home on the weekend and me and my friends would go up to Harlem and get into all kinds of trouble. It's actually shocking to think about myself at like 11 years old buying drugs in Harlem. Its pretty crazy. It seemed normal at the time."

The musician also opened up about a near fatal bout with Lyme disease that was eventually cured by doctors in Germany that he said was "so much darker" than even his heroin addiction. But one good thing that came out of his treatment was meeting his wife Angie, a musician and opera singer, in Germany. "Yes, this then makes you look back at this hideous ordeal that you went through that would lead you to meeting the love of your life and this is how crazy life is."

Speaking about Chaz, Elijah Blue said the two were initially close, but then grew apart. "We were close. I think what happened was Chaz went off to a performing arts school back east and I went off back east as well, later to prep school, and so from there we kind of took different paths. But for a minute growing up we were kind of close, yeah... we kind of grew apart when we started going to different schools and just not being geographically around each other."

Elijah Blue also revealed how different it was to grow up in a celebrity household. "It wasn't like a sex drugs and rock and roll household, but you know there were a lot of big parties and there was an era for that. I mean like when I was a little kid like in the 80s there was a lot of that, you know. I mean I remember Andy Warhol coming over to the house and things like that, I didn't appreciate what that was at that time."

About the current state of his relationship with his mom, Elijah Blue said although the two haven't spoken in months after he and his wife moved in with Cher last year and things didn't go well, he still wants to reconnect. "In due time I'm sure that has to happen. Anything like that always has to happen at an organic pace, so for me right now the priority in my life is just kind of coming back to the land of the living."

He added: "You know, man, we have our issues. We've worked through a lot of them. We've got some more to go, but when you're an adult, you take on a different sort of tone than when you're an adolescent and I'm not going to sit in an adolescent's kind of a mind frame, because that will affect me negatively in my own life when I start my own family. So you don't have any choice if you want to be a balanced person, but to ultimately heal. But, there's unresolved stuff, for sure."

Still, he clearly still admires his famous mom. "You know, she's really talented. She's gorgeous -- I mean, she's Cher. What's not to love?"
